Several dental conditions requires this procedure, some cases are mentioned below

ImageWisdom teeth: This is a common issue. Some of these people end up needing oral surgery because of these difficulties. If these teeth, which are the third molars, end up getting impacted between the jawbone and the gum tissue, a person will require oral surgery.

Tooth loss: Dentists may recommend that patients get dental implants to replace the missing teeth. Similarly, improperly fitting dentures can result in oral surgery. Sometimes instead of fixing the dentures, dentists may want to correct jaw irregularities.

Speaking of jaw irregularities, unequal jaw growth will prompt dentists to suggest oral surgery. When the upper and lower jaws do not grow equally, speaking, breathing, eating and swallowing problems can result. If braces or other orthodontic appliances do not work to correct these jaw problems or if the dentist does not believe that these appliances will be the right solution for a specific patient then oral surgery will be the best recommended procedure.

Oral surgery is also done for patients who have cleft lip and cleft palate. It is a reconstructive surgery.

Different Types of Dental Crowns in India

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a tooth. It covers the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength and to improve its appearance. Depending on your habits and the condition of your gums, there can be some drawbacks. Dental crowns cover the entire visible surface area of an affected tooth and add strength, durability, and stability to the tooth. Approximately 85% of dental crowns and bridges are metal-based and 15% ceramic-based.

There are various situations that would require the placement of a crown, such as root canals, lost fillings, dental bridges, decay below a filling, and chipping and cracking of tooth enamel. The cracking or breakage of teeth can be caused by age, tooth decay, fillings and an improper bite.

A dental crown may be needed to:

  • To protect a weak tooth (eg, from decay) from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth
  • To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t a lot of teeth left
  • To Support a tooth that has been badly damaged by tooth decay
  • To cover a dental implant
  • To Protect a worn tooth
  • To cover misshaped or severely discolored teeth
  • To hold a dental bridge in place
  • To cover a tooth that has been endodontically treated (had a root canal)

The Dental Crown Procedure

Depending on the extent of the decay or damage to the tooth, the dentist may perform a root canal before placing a crown on the tooth. If this is the case, the dentist may need to build a foundation for the crown after the root canal has been performed, also known as a “post-and-core” foundation.

Before the crown can be placed on the tooth, the dentist must file the tooth down to make room for it. Then an impression of the tooth and the surrounding teeth will be made. While the crown is being created, a temporary acrylic crown will be placed on the tooth.

When the permanent crowns are ready, the temporary crowns are replaced at a separate visit. The crown will last anywhere from seven to 40 years.

The followings are the Different types of Dental Crowns

  • Ceramic Crown

Cosmetic Dental Implants in India

A dental implant is a “root” device, usually made of titanium, used in dentistry to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth to replace missing teeth. It can be used to support a number of dental prostheses, including crowns, implant-supported bridges or dentures. They can also be used as anchorage for orthodontic tooth movement. The use of dental implants permits undirectional tooth movement without reciprocal action.

Dental implants are made of a variety of materials, such as titanium, aluminum oxide and surgical stainless steel. The devices are firmly attached to the jaw bone through surgery and implant posts provide a comfortable, stable support on which artificial teeth can be secured.

There are two basic categories of implants:

1) An Endosteal implant is placed directly into the bone, like natural tooth roots and can be used for many purposes. A single pin can be inserted through an existing tooth to strengthen and stabilize it. Other styles can provide an anchor for one or more artificial teeth.

2) A Subperiosteal implant consists of a metal frame that is fitted onto the jawbone just below the gum tissue. As the gums heal, the frame becomes fixed to the jawbone. Posts, which are attached to the frame, protrude through the gums. As with Endosteal implants, artificial teeth are then mounted to the posts.

The main advantages of Dental Implants are:

  1. Implants restore proper chewing function and so you can enjoy foods previously too “difficult” to eat.
  2. You feel confident that your replacement teeth won’t move or loosen.
  3. You regain the closest thing to the look, feel and function of your natural teeth.
  4. Forget about unsightly partial denture clasps which place damaging pressure on remaining natural teeth.
  5. Eliminate irritated and painful gums.
  6. Improve your speech by eliminating or reducing the “fullness” of full or partial dentures.
  7. Replace missing teeth with the look and feel of natural teeth without having to “cut down” healthy teeth.
  8. Dental implants help stop the progressive bone loss and shrinkage of your jawbone by “mimicking” the roots of natural teeth.
  9. Dental implants are clinically proven with a success rate in excess of 90%.

Orthodontic Braces in India

Logo

Best Dental Clinic

Orthodontics is a specialist branch of dentistry that is concerned with the development and management of irregularities and abnormalities in the teeth and jaws. If you have crooked teeth and/or a misaligned bite, there are a variety of treatments that can help straighten your teeth, including braces and retainers. If the patient decides to proceed with treatment, an appointment with orthodontists is needed to collect records.  The record includes the following

  • Impressions from which plaster models of the teeth are constructed.
  • X-rays of the teeth and jaws.
  • Photographs of the teeth and face.

Records allow the orthodontist to analyze each case accurately. They are also used to record the existing malocclusion for future reference. In some cases, a removable retainer will be all that’s necessary. In other rare cases especially when there is an extreme overbite or underbite, surgery may be necessary. In most cases, however, braces will be needed.

Generally, there are three types of braces that are

Orthodontics

1) Brackets: Made of stainless steel or tooth-colored ceramic or plastic, brackets are bonded to the front of each tooth. Ceramic or plastic brackets are often selected for cosmetic reasons. Plastic brackets may become stained and discolored by the end of treatment. Another disadvantage of ceramic or plastic brackets is that they cause more friction between the wire and brackets, which can increase treatment time.

2) Traditional bands: These are the generally outdated “full metal-mouth” look, which consists of the use of metal brackets soldered to metal bands that wrap around each tooth.

3) Lingual-type brackets: These are brackets that attach to the back of teeth, hiding the bracket from view.

Advantages of braces:

  • Straighten teeth
  • Correct an irregular bite
  • Close unsightly gaps
  • Bring teeth and lips into proper alignment
  • Better appearance of teeth, smile and face
  • Improved self-esteem, confidence, well-being and feeling of acceptance
  • A more even bite
  • Reduce risk of injury to protruding front teeth
  •  Improve dental growth in a positive manner
  • Correct harmful habits
  • Better jaw alignment, proportion and function
  • In young children, orthodontic treatment also may guide proper jaw growth and permanent tooth eruption.

 Orthodontics Metal Vs White

Disadvantages of braces:

  • Discomfort and pain
  • Food can get stuck in the brackets.
  • Keeping good oral hygiene can be more difficult especially flossing.
  • You cannot eat certain foods such as hard candy, tough meats, etc.
  • Your teeth may become stained in certain cases from the bracket
  • Your lips may get cut up.
  • Your physical appearance will be different.
  • You will have to go to your orthodontist usually once a month for adjustments which can lead to a couple day of minor discomfort. There is pain associated with the adjustments.

Most of these braces disadvantages are not enough for people to warrant not getting their teeth straightened.  Dental braces are a great form of self improvement and help build confidence.

Removable prosthesis in Dentistry

A removable partial denture fills in the space created by missing teeth and fills out your smile. A denture helps you to properly chew food, a difficult task when you are missing teeth. In addition, a denture may improve speech and prevent a sagging face by providing support for lips and cheeks.

Partial dentures

A partial denture is a removable prosthesis; it is usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases, which are connected by metal framework. However partial dentures are not suited as a permanent solution due to the fact that, using fixation clasps, teeth will be damaged and loosen. Furthermore, the toothless part of the jaw is subject to a loss of the jaw bone, thus it is essential for most patients to regularly reline the partial denture in order to improve the position of the denture on its base.

Partial denture offers numerous advantages. The frameworks are cast to fit the teeth. Since they sit on the teeth, as well as being attached to them, they are extremely stable and retentive.  The teeth have been altered slightly beforehand in order that the partial denture can rest upon them without interfering with the way the patient bites the teeth together.  It also has many other advantages like it may preserve the natural tooth placement of your existing teeth. They ensure proper chewing and digestion by thoroughly grinding your food. A properly designed partial denture will assist in support of your existing teeth. A removable partial denture will add enjoyment to your life.

Advantages of removable partial dentures over fixed partial dentures:

  • Often look better
  • Easier to repair
  • Less expensive

Disadvantages:

  • Can be lost or broken when out of the mouth

Full dentures

A full set of upper or lower teeth, mounted in a plastic base. Dentures are also called false teeth. The fixation of full denture is mainly achieved by the suction effect between the dentures and mucosa. Thus the exact fit of the denture is absolutely essential.

Root Canal Treatment with Excellent Care in India

To know about a root canal we have to understand the basic structure of the tooth.
The portion of the tooth seen in the oral cavity is called the crown of the tooth and portion which is anchored within the jaw bone is called the root. Depending on the size location and function a tooth may have one or more roots. The tooth has this inner core of soft tissue called pulp. The pulp comprises of all the nerves and blood vessels, which keep the tooth alive. In the crown, the pulp is present within a chamber called pulp chamber and it extends into the root via a narrow tapering canal called root canal. The blood vessels and nerves, which travel through this canal, leave the tooth through a small opening present in the lower end of the tooth ultimately joining with the other major blood vessels and nerves running within the jawbone.

Root canal treatment is the process of removing infected pulp from your teeth. It is performed for two main reasons. The first is an infection. An untreated cavity is a common cause of pulp infection. This untreated decay usually erodes the enamel and dentin of the tooth and leads to a root canal. This allows bacteria to infect the pulp. Antibiotics can’t get to infections inside teeth. The inflammation caused by the infection reduces the blood supply to the tooth. The reduced blood supply also keeps the pulp from healing.

The second reason is damage to the pulp that can’t be fixed. Trauma or a fractured tooth can damage the pulp. So can a lot of restoration, such as several fillings placed in the same tooth over a period of time. Sometimes, common dental procedures, such as preparing a tooth for a crown, can hurt the pulp. Then the tooth might need a root canal.

The main symptoms are:
1. A severe toothache
2. Presence of tenderness in your gums near a tooth
3. Pain and swelling in your gums near a tooth
4. A tooth that is partially or completely darkened following a trauma

Complete Root canal treatment consists of the following five basic steps:
Step 1. An opening is made in the crown of the tooth.
Step 2. The pulp is removed from the pulp chamber and root canals. Tiny instruments are used to clean the root canals and shape them to a form that will ensure they will be well sealed. A temporary filling is placed in the opening to seal the opening and protect the tooth between visits.
Step 3. The root canals are filled and sealed with a material that prevents bacteria from re-entering. The opening in the crown of the tooth is sealed with a temporary filling. x-rays are made before, during and after treatment.
Step 4. At future appointments, which may be in another department, the temporary filling will be replaced with a permanent filling and/or crown.
Step 5. The root canal, permanent filling, and/or crown are evaluated for healing at periodic intervals called recall appointments.

If this treatment is not done, an infected tooth may have to be extracted. It is better to keep your natural teeth if you can. If a tooth is missing, neighboring teeth can drift out of line. They also can be overstressed from chewing. Keeping your natural teeth also helps you to avoid other treatments, such as implants or bridges. Also, if you ignore an infected or injured tooth the infection can spread to other parts of your body.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction India

Wisdom teeth are one of four rearmost molars on each side of the upper and lower jaw in humans. Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt, typically in early adulthood. Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are the four permanent adult teeth located at the back corners of your mouth on the top and bottom. These teeth are considered as the hardest ones. Wisdom tooth extraction is usually performed when a tooth doesn’t have room to and the impacted tooth results in pain, infection or other dental problems. Wisdom tooth extraction may be done by a dentist in the dentist’s office.  You may have the surgery in the hospital, especially if you are having all your wisdom teeth pulled at one time or if you are at high risk for complications. If you have any infections, surgery will usually be delayed until the infection has cleared up. The dentist may have you take antibiotics to help heal the infection.

The main symptoms that lead to wisdom teeth extraction are:

1. Infection in the mouth

2. Facial swelling

3. Pain

4. Swelling of the gum line in the back of the mouth

Early removal of wisdom tooth can prevent problems. You can avoid the pain and possible damaging effects of an impacted wisdom tooth by having it removed early, before its roots are fully developed. The dentist can monitor the development of your wisdom teeth with x-rays and remove them if it has any problems.

Wisdom extraction may be done for several reasons. The wisdom teeth may come in creating an issue for surrounding teeth pushing them out of the way or dispositioning. This can cause a type of domino effect with the rest of the teeth in the mouth including making the front teeth appear very crowded. This is one reason that extraction may be elected. Additionally, the wisdom teeth can do damage to the surrounding gums given how they come in. They could tear the gum and cause sores. This could ultimately lead to infection of the gum, tooth and/or jaw. An abscess may occur needing the tooth to be removed.

The wisdom teeth extraction procedure usually involves an incision to open the gum, and sometimes a small portion of the bone may need to be removed to provide access for the wisdom teeth removal. The wisdom teeth may also need to be divided into segments so it can be removed safely and easily. Perfect wisdom teeth technique and a lot of experience is a must for these surgical procedures. The incision in the gum may then need to be closed with stitches. The patient is always well monitored during the wisdom teeth removal surgery, and a set of instructions are given and discussed for the post-operation recovery period.

Post operation care for wisdom tooth removal

1)                 Do Not Smoke for 12 Hours

Smoking will promote bleeding and interfere with healing. So avoid smoking at least for 12 hours after the surgery.

2)                 Do Not Disturb the Wound

If you disturb the wound, you may invite irritation, infection and/or bleeding. Chew on the opposite side for the first 24 hours.

3)                 Do Not Spit or Suck Through a Straw

This will promote bleeding and may dislodge the blood clot, which could result in a dry socket.

4)                 Control of Bleeding

If the area is not closed with stitches, a pressure pack made of folded sterile gauze pads will be placed over the socket. It is important that this pack stay in place to control bleeding and to encourage clot formation. The gauze is usually kept in place for 30 minutes. If the bleeding has not stopped once the original pack is removed, place a new gauze pad over the extraction site.

5)                 Control of Swelling

After surgery, some swelling is to be expected. This can be controlled through the use of cold packs, which slow the circulation. A cold pack is usually placed at the site of swelling during the first 24 hours in a cycle of 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. After the first 24 hours, it is advisable to rinse with warm saltwater (one teaspoon of salt to eight ounces of warm water) every two hours to promote healing.

6)                 Medication for Pain Control

Anti-inflammatory medications such as Aspirin or Ibuprofen are used to control minor discomfort following oral surgery. Stronger analgesics may be prescribed by dentist if the patient is in extreme discomfort.

7)                 Diet and Nutrition

A soft diet may be prescribed for the patient for a few days following surgery.
